January 2025
It’s been a stormy start to the year yet how changeable the weather can be. Even at its wildest there’s something amazing in this ancient landscape that fills you with awe as the waves batter the coast reaching up to 30 feet high at Sennen Cove. The week before we had brilliant sunshine and clear blue skies. That’s what I love about living down here nature sets the scene bringing you down to earth it’s definitely the one in control. I’ve almost completed my hand drawn maps and walking guides across the ancient moorland an addition that offers adventures to walkers visiting The Old Post House. This free facility gives guests self- guided routes mapping and connecting Neolithic sites across the West Penwith Moorland a timeless and beautiful moor where in Spring you can be blessed to hear the first cuckoo. The beautiful purple heather and golden gorse uplift your senses with the perfume of the gorse infusing the air with a delicious scent on a warm Spring day. It’s a step out of the ordinary into the extraordinary natural world that remains untouched for thousands of years. It claims one of the oldest structures in the world still being used for its original purpose, the spectacular granite hedges covered with bright yellow lichen and sprouting an abundance of wild flowers and fauna where they continue to enclose the fields in which sometimes wild ponies and long horned cattle graze. Refurbishment continues over February with fresh paint and a few new cushions to freshen up the B&B, always trying to maintain high standards. After a wild few days we’re looking forward to the warmth of the coming Spring and the lighter days. In the meantime we’re staying cosy, hunkering down, lighting the fire and enjoying the long evenings for reading some of our favourite books whilst it’s quiet.
